Results - Day 3

Trialling started just before 7am on the last day of the Irish National. It was a grey, damp start very early this morning but the cloud lifted and there has been intermittent sunshine. The wind has dropped but it still has a cold edge.

There are a few sore heads after last night's dance in the catering marquee.

So far, the sheep seem more settled this morning. They are tending to pull to the right on the top half of the fetch and are running on the cross drive. The fetch gates and second drive gates have been missed.

There are a lot of runs to get through today, with another 50 singles, three brace plus the reserve run-offs and champion run-offs.

The stone bank, which has been nicknamed Becher's Brook, continues to cause problems for some dogs on the outrun.

Today's brace runners are Dennis Birchall with Tweed and Nan, Frankie McCullough with Spot and Jake, and David Corrigan with Jim and Curragh Sweep.

There was only one completed run in the brace, from Frankie McCullough. Dennis Birchall and David Corrigan both retired.

Frankie scored 176 points with Spot and Jake. Ned O'Keeffe is the brace champion for the second year running and Frankie is reserve champion.

Dean McCauly goes into the lead with Jan after lunch on a score of 156, one point ahead of Michael Gallagher's early run with Flo.

The top five for day three were:

1, James McLaughlin, Dan (Ben), 176;

2, Louise Amos, Corridhu Kohl, 164;

3, Dean McAuley, Jan, 156, olf 72;

4, Stephen O'Donnell, Snip, 156, olf 68;

5, Michael Gallagher, Flo, 155;

Reserve, Ned O'Keeffe, Dunedin Tina, 150.
